Design Is…

February 10, 2010

Most professions have certain quirks and qualities that are special to that particular career. Certain high points or low points that just come with the territory. Being a designer comes with a unique point of view. I found this great set of desktop wallpapers on Cheth Studios website that I thought covered a lot of those quirky areas.

Design is a lot of things to different people. To me design is spontaneous magic to the client and organized chaos to the designer.

What is design to you?

I’m In Deep

February 1, 2010

Growing up I was a good reader. We had a contest in elementary school called Book It! which was a program that rewarded you for reading books with the incentive of Pizza Hut pizza. I probably scarfed down a ton of little personal pan pizzas because I was good at hauling though those book lists.

To this day I love getting into a book and flying through the pages. A good book is good for the soul. It had been awhile since I found a book or series of books that has really caught my interest. But lately I have been totally immersed into the Emily Giffin books. Specifically these two:

Emily Giffin’s Website

They fall into the “chick lit” world of books but it is such an easy read that its hard not to love it.

I finished both of them in about 3-4 days and I’ve already hit the library up for her other two books, Baby Proof and Love the One Your With.  Her new book, Heart of the Matter comes out this spring. This designer will design for a copy of the new book….

Trail Map Save the Date

February 1, 2010

I’ve been anxious to share about this project. I was contacted through Etsy by my client who was looking to have a save the date made in the style of a trail map recording the couples’ relationship and ending at their engagement and announcing their marriage. Check it out:

It was a great project that turned out better then I think the customer had expected. I was also really pleased with the way it all turned out. It was great working with such a lovely couple and I wish them the best!

(The names and dates have been changed for the client)

Mardi Gras Time!

January 21, 2010

The husband and I didn’t move to St. Louis last year until the days before Easter which was a bummer at the time because we had missed the Mardi Gras festivities. Having a year to absorb the local culture we’ve since learned that Mardi Gras really is a big deal in this town.

Check this link out to learn more about Soulard/ St. Louis Mardi Gras.

I’m a big fan of the whole New Orleans, French and Cajun culture style. I would love to experience true New  Orleans style food and hopefully a visit down south to the bayou is somewhere in our future.

Mardi Gras comes with a lot of great style, I love these local Mardi Gras posters:

Love it!

The posters came from a local restaurant in the heart of Soulard, check out Hammerstones here.

Worlds Collide

January 20, 2010

It would come as no surprise that I personally am very very excited about the release of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland this spring. Alice in Wonderland has always been one of my favorite stories and the magical world of whimsy and curiousity has brought me inspiration that I bring to Wonderland Papers. I love Tim Burton’s work and so when I found out that he was going to be the creative force behind the remake of Alice in Wonderland I was thrilled to say the least. Two of my favorite worlds colliding.

I found out recently that Alice in Wonderland would be meeting head on with another one of my loves. OPI nail polish. OPI the company with the great nail polish color names , “I’m Not Really A Waitress”, “Miami Beet” and “Can You Tapas This?”, to name a few.

I went and purchased the mini kit so that I could dabble in all the colors. “Absolutely Alice”, a blue glittery color, “Mad as A Hatter”, a sparkly black tone with purple and green, “Thanks So Muchness”, a shiny bright red and “Off With Her Red” which is a tomato red color. I loved the title “Mad as A Hatter” but was really skeptical of how it would look. I’m currently wearing the color and really like it. It is strictly all glitter but with all the green, purples and gold that I see in it I can’t help but think how perfect it is for Mardi Gras!

Curious and curiouser indeed.

All in the family

January 8, 2010

I created a courtship/wedding keepsake map for my best friend awhile back. She really loved it and was proudly showing the finished product to her family. Her mom just loved it. So as a present we decided to create on for her and her husband. for Christ,as It was so great to be able to make a customized map for people who that were a big part of me life growing up. I love creating the maps because it keeps us in touch with the moments in our life that have meant so much to us.

New Year, New Projects – Campus Keepsakes

January 4, 2010

Happy New Year and welcome 2010. A brand new year and a brand new decade. I love the way that people get inspired at the beginning of a new year. It is all about committing to ideas, passions and yourself in hopes to make things better. Frank Sinatra said it best, “The best is yet to come”.

There will be some new additions to the Wonderland Paper family in this new year. A new part of the personal stationary services that we offer is a new branch called Campus Keepsakes. Based off of the wedding and courtship maps that I create we will be launching customized campus maps meant to record your college days. You can get a visual reminder of your days as a collegiate or made for someone you know that is getting ready to graduate.

Campus Keepsake maps are affordable and completely customized by you to remember all the long nights of studying, your favorite place to hang out, spending every Saturday at the football game and all your memories in on hand drawn illustration.
